This elegant curved sickle is made from cast bronze. Both sides feature a raised triple spiral design. These triple spirals, or triskelions, are a common design motif found in prehistoric art across Europe. We specifically based the look of this one on the spiral found at the Neolithic burial mound of Newgrange in County Meath, Ireland. Every year on the winter solstice, the light of the sun perfectly aligns to shine down the long passage of the burial mound and illuminate this iconic spiral, which is carved into a stone at the end of the passage.
The edge of the blade has a delicately hammered finish. The handle is a dark walnut wood with a beautiful knot on the end which creates a nice counterbalance to the blade. The blade is held in place with two bronze rivets. Total length from the end of the handle to the tip of the blade is about 10 inches.
