Thames Sickle

This elegant bronze-bladed sickle is based off of an artifact found in the Thames river in England, which is now in the collections of the British Museum. It is a gorgeous example of the “socketted” style of sickle popular in the British Isles during the Bronze Age. The original sickle’s handle had rotted away millennia ago so we don’t know for sure what it would have looked like, but we based the shape of our recreation on a similar sickle with a rare intact haft found at Shinewater Park. The blade is sharpened on both sides and securely riveted into the oak handle with a bronze rivet. This is a beautiful tribute to the past, as well as a sturdy tool that could easily be used for any number of practical tasks. Total length is about 13 inches.
