Description

Over the 40 years of Omega Artwork’s history, we’ve designed a lot of swords. This dragon design used to be one of our classics, but we haven’t made a version of it in over a decade. We recently found a hilt and pommel for it while going through old parts and decided it was time to make it again, utilizing all the new ideas and techniques we’ve learned in the years since it was last brought to life.

This is Flight: a sword about new beginnings and things set free after long slumbers. Two dragons, or wyverns, form the hilt of the sword with their tails entwined around the blade. A black onyx gemstone is mounted between their arched wings. The pommel is disk-shaped with a relief of a dragon biting its tail on both sides. At it’s center is a rutilated quartz sphere which flashes with hidden inclusions when light shines through it. The hilt and pommel are both cast bronze.

The blade is made from 5160 carbon steel, which has been hand ground into an undulating flame shape. The grip of the sword is made from black ebony which was recycled from rejected clarinet bells. It is hand-carved with a pattern of scales that feels delightfully textural when held in the hand. The leather sheath is dyed black with aged brown highlights and pressed with a design of scales that make it feel like dragon skin. It has two grommets on either side, which could easily be clipped to a belt for wearing or hung on wall hooks for displaying.

All of our swords are one-of-a-kind creations which have unique names. We might make other swords in the future with a similar design, but there will never be another one exactly like Flight.

Flight is 38 3/4 inches long and 8 inches wide at its longest point. The grip is around 5 1/2 inches long (including the base of the pommel). It is 39 1/2 inches long in the sheath. Flight weighs 4 pounds 4 ounces outside its sheath, and 5 pounds including the sheath.
